SUMMARY:2027 ACJS Academic Leadership Development Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Across academic careers\, faculty members frequently find themselves spending one or more intervals in a leadership role. Most commonly\, this might involve assuming responsibility for graduate or undergraduate degree programs or serving as a department chair or school director. Some colleges and universities provide limited training to faculty assuming new leadership roles\, but that training is often technical (i.e.\, the "nuts and bolts" of paperwork and process compliance) rather than providing actual leadership skills (i.e.\, understanding how to guide a group of faculty through a reorganization process\, how to proactively integrate to inclusion considerations into unit operations. The ALDS is designed for aspiring and new leaders (less than 3 years of experience). The Summit will explore the landscape of academic leadership\, help participants better understand their leadership strengths and weaknesses\, and foster a cohort of rising and aspiring leaders through networking and peer engagement. The Summit will meet on Tuesday\, March 30th\, from 10 am to 5 pm\, and again on Friday\, April 2nd\, from 7:15 am to 9:15 am. The 2027 ALDS is being offered at no cost to registered Annual Meeting attendees. However\, participants must cover all standard conference costs (e.g.\, travel\, lodging\, registration\, per diem). Space is limited\, and attendees must register in advance by February 20th. IMPORTANT: The ALDS Committee requests that all participants complete this - Brief Survey - to better address the specific needs/concerns of those attending. If you have not already done so\, please make sure you register for the ACJS 63rd Annual Meeting\, March 30- April 3\, 2027\, before the Early Bird registration deadline\, February 6.
